APPLICATION GUIDE

Preparation

Old paint finishes should be removed if flaking at all and the surface should be sanded to create a texture (also known as a mechanical key) prior to applying Hygienic Kennel & Cattery Paint. When preparing for a floor coat, doing so mechanically (shot-blasting or grinding) is always advisable for best results, but if that is not possible then sanding the area or our Etch and Clean is a good alternative. After the surface has been completely abraded, thoroughly sweep and vacuum the area of any remaining dust or contaminants. For more information on preparation, please see technical data sheet. 

Please note: Etch and Clean is only suitable for use on bare concrete.

 

Priming

• For new concrete floors or floors in good condition, prime with Resincoat Damp Tolerant Primer

• For dusty, old or weaker floors prime with Resincoat Deep Penetrating Primer

• For greasy floors with heavy oil residue clean thoroughly using a suitable degreaser scraping off any dust or dirt and then prime with Resincoat Oil Tolerant Primer

 

Application

We advise when applying this product the ambient temperature is at least 7°C.

1. Mix Part A on its own with a mixing paddle attached to an electric drill for about 1 minute before adding ALL of Part B and continue to mix for another 90 seconds, keeping the paddle in suspension to avoid mixing air into the unit.

2. Pour entirety of the tin's contents into a plastic paint scuttle or tray.

3. Immediately begin applying your paint with a nylon-bonded resin suitable roller.

4. Use a brush around the edges to cut in (a second pair of hands can be useful for this stage).

5. As soon as the first coat has started curing (is no longer tacky to touch) you can re-coat; this should take 12-24 hours.

6. The cured final coat is ok for foot traffic. Cars and heavy objects, however, should be left off the new coating for the first 48 hours and chemicals including water should not be introduced for the first 7 days (Full chemical cure).

 

PLEASE NOTE: The pot life of this product is 20 minutes. This means that once parts have been mixed, the paint will start to chemically cure after this time. Ensure you remove the paint from the tin in this window. The paint will then be workable on your floor for up to 40 minutes. 

Pot life = Time to harden in pot following addition of hardener

Working Time = Time to apply product before it becomes unworkable

 

USEFUL INFORMATION

• Roller sleeves should be used once per coat, two coats will require two roller sleeves.

• This product is NOT UV stable therefore can discolour when exposed to regular sunlight. For areas with plenty of repeated sunlight, please coat with a coloured UVR coating such as Resincoat Chemical Resistant UVR Floor Coating for a UV stable finish.

• This product should NOT be split. Taking smaller quantities from each tin, even if measured correctly, may cause issues with activating.

• This product is NOT self levelling.

Wouldn't use anything else

We have been using Resincoat epoxy paint at Lost Souls Sanctuary since 2017 and it has completely transformed it. We needed to put something down that would withstand dogs nails and the general wear and tear of dogs running in and out - ordinary floor paint just wouldn't stand up to this. The epoxy paint has been fantastic, even when the floors are covered in mud from the dogs it cleans up beautifully. We can't recommend it highly enough.

Not really a review, more a question.

I built a small place to use only for isolating dogs, usually a whelping bitch and I did the floor in blue. It looks just great but have decided to change it to dark grey as probably more servicable. The surface is immaculate, will it be OK to coat over with grey

Kennel floor

I used this paint on old concrete base that is under cover. The concrete was primed first on recommendation then 2 coats of fern green, which is quite bright, but looks fresh. On advice I continually mixed the paint as it was being put down to keep the anti slip from sinking to the bottom of the pot. The finish looks great and definitely stops the water and dog pee from soaking in and stops the smell. Easy to clean definitely worth the effort.
Make sure you read all the tech info, data sheets and watch the how to videos!! This will mean you get the finish you're after.
Credit to the company for their customer service, really helpful, good advice on what amount you would need, answered all my questions, even the little ones. Would certainly recommend this company for product and service quality!!

Boarding Kennels and cattery

The product looks very good on the floor and is much easier to clean. We bought the paint with a medium anti-slip profile and while works great for humans it doesn't at all for the dogs, every dog we've had in still slips on the floor. When we received the product there was also a lack of instructions around that you need to keep mixing the resin containing the anti-slip as you apply it. Ended up with clumps of anti-slip profile in the bottom of some batches while we were working to apply it.

Knaresborough Cattery

We have used this paint in our boarding cattery and so far it has been down 3 weeks and looks perfect. So much easier to clean than before, we went for light grey and the colour is great

Orange vs Grey

We’ve been really pleased with the dark grey, anti slip, hygienic paint we’ve used. However the vermilion orange that we used in some rooms has been really disappointing. After 3 coats, and the primer, you can still see the dark and light areas of the plywood underneath (exactly the same floor prep that was used for the grey areas, on which you can’t see through 1 coat + primer). And the orange is red - the RAL guide looked like burnt orange; a matching wall paint using the RAL is burnt orange; the Resincoat floor is red .... And whilst the grey cleans easily, using exactly the same cleaning products, the red doesn’t. I expect I’ll have to redo the red areas with grey in the near future.... Real shame.

After a failed attempt using a different company to paint the chalet floors... thank goodness for Resincoat!! Absolutely fabulous advice via the online chat, initial easy ordering and so easy to apply... no calculating the additive just pour the small tin in the big tin and away you go!! Floor looks like a professional has been in.. although my cutting in is a desired taste! Also if the cats have a wee/poo on the floor it doesn’t absorb into the floor and is really easy to clean, only one vice and that is I called to reorder on the phone and was told to do it online didn’t feel it was helpful as couldn’t find what I was looking for .. I did eventually find what I was looking for again and now waiting to do another area... thanks resincoat
